On July 19, 2023, a solemn ceremony took place in Moscow to unveil a monument to the most influential leader in the war for the independence of Spanish colonies in America, Simón Bolívar. The monument was installed in Moscow to mark the 240th anniversary of his birth.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Russian government, Alexander Novak, Minister of the Moscow City Government and Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of Moscow, Sergey Cheremin, Director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Shchetinin, Mayor of Caracas, Carmen Melendez, Minister of Oil of Venezuela, Pedro Rafael, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow, representatives of the Venezuelan diaspora, President of the Russian-Venezuelan Friendship Association, Alexander Mudragey, and members of the public from the capital.

The location for this majestic monument was determined back in 2010 when the foundation stone was laid in the presence of the President of Venezuela, the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez, in a square in Moscow. The Venezuelan government gifted a replica of the equestrian sculpture of Simón Bolívar, created by the Italian artist Adamo Tadolini and originally installed in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.

The occasion marked a splendid celebration of Russian-Venezuelan friendship.
