The representative office of the BRICS International Alliance of Strategic Projects has officially started operations in Bangkok, aimed at promoting cooperation between the Kingdom of Thailand and BRICS countries, as well as expanding engagement in the Asia-Pacific region. The opening took place during the BRICS Forum Thailand 2026, held in Thailand for the first time and dedicated to investment and economic partnership.
“Today’s ceremony is not just an opening, but the beginning of international cooperation aimed at creating new opportunities for Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region. BRICS is not only an economic bloc, but also a platform for cooperation in investment, technology, energy, finance, and sustainable development. Thailand has significant potential to become a BRICS hub in Southeast Asia,” said Michai Thaucharyn, head of the organization’s Thailand office.
Key priorities of the new office include attracting foreign investment, developing cooperation in energy and resources, supporting technological innovation, building international business networks, and facilitating strategic projects in Thailand. Plans were also announced to hold a major BRICS business forum in the Kingdom by the end of the year.
The BRICS Forum Thailand 2026 served as a platform to discuss prospects for investment cooperation, economic growth, and the expansion of business contacts between Thailand and BRICS countries. The event brought together representatives of political, business, and expert communities from several states. The Russian side was represented by Larisa Zelentsova, President of the BRICS International Alliance of Strategic Projects, who noted that the organization marks its 10th anniversary in 2026 and continues to strengthen dialogue between civil society institutions of member and partner countries.
The opening of the representative office comes amid the steady development of Thailand’s engagement with BRICS. In June 2024, the Kingdom announced its intention to join the group as a full member, and on January 1, 2025, it received partner country status.
